Shirley Pizarro (she/her) is an educator and community advocate with over 20 years of experience dedicated to empowering students and strengthening communities through education and the arts. Throughout her career, she has been recognized multiple times as Teacher of the Month and Teacher of the Year, reflecting her deep commitment to student success and meaningful learning experiences.

Shirley has contributed to the development of curriculum across reading, language arts, social studies, and enrichment programs, always with a focus on making learning accessible, engaging, and culturally relevant. Beyond the classroom, she has worked as an organizer with the American Federation of Teachers, advocating for equitable resources, better working conditions, and stronger support systems for both educators and students. Her advocacy has included organizing families and educators to engage with elected officials and participate in community efforts that expand access to arts and educational opportunities.

At the heart of Shirley’s work is her belief that art and education together have the power to bring people closer. She values educational projects that use creativity as a bridge, helping individuals see that we are more alike than different, and that through shared experiences we can build communities grounded in understanding, compassion, and love rather than fear. She is passionate about inspiring young people to become thoughtful, engaged individuals who are committed to leaving the world better than they found it.

Outside of her professional work, Shirley enjoys caring for her plants, learning how to sew, cooking, and spending quality time with her family, activities that continue to nurture her creativity and sense of connection.
